 In the winter of 2023, I was
asked to render the Grateful Dead logo in stained glass. The
image to the right shows the result.
The approximate size is two feet wide and three feet high.
I used
three sizes of lead came in this artwork, 5/32" 1/4" and 3/8."
The facial features that make up the eyes and nose of the skull (and
the faces and paws on the dancing bears) are overlays made of zinc
covered with solder. Those overlays that touch other leadlines are
soldered in place and those that do not touch other leadlines are glued
in place.
The lead, zinc, and solder were all darkened with a chemical patina.
There has been a delay in installing this artwork as it is part of a
home remodel. I will add a photo that shows this artwork installed once
that takes place.
